ASN Critical Care Nephrology – 2022 Update ( On Demand and Livestream)
Designed for trainees, practicing nephrologists, and other nephrology providers who care for critically ill patients with kidney diseases, this program reviews principles of critical care nephrology and provides updates on the latest developments. Presentations review topics in critical care medicine relevant to nephrology providers, which include hemodynamic monitoring and support; fluid optimization; extracorporeal techniques for sepsis; ethical issues; and management of dysnatremias, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and COVID-19.
Presentations also focus on management of critically ill patients with AKI, including such specific populations as patients who are pregnant and those with liver disease, heart failure, or cancer. In addition, the program covers the short- and long-term outcomes of AKI, how to manage patients with AKI and persistent dialysis needs, and key considerations when prescribing RRT. Many presentations use instructive cases.
Course Objective(s)
Upon completion of the program, the participant will be able to:
- 1) describe evidence-based approaches to the management of shock
- 2) synthesize the diagnosis and management of AKI in specific populations, including patients with cardiorenal syndrome, liver disease, pregnancy, hypertensive emergencies, and cancer
- 3) discuss the current management of COVID-19 infection in the ICU setting
- 4) analyze the current evidence for the clinical use of biomarkers for AKI
- 5) discuss the current evidence for extracorporeal techniques for sepsis
- 6) describe the long-term complications for patients who survive an episode of AKI
- 7) evaluate the most appropriate dose and prescription of RRT for critically ill patients with AKI.
